Back-to-school — FALL 2022
As we continuously pave the way towards living in the new normal, some of us are still in awe of the effect the pandemic has brought us – both positive and negative. Students have adapted to virtual learning in a variety of remarkable ways, but even with all this technology, they have struggled to form genuine connections with their teachers and peers. This is why keeping them engaged, virtually or in a classroom set-up, is very important. Research shows that a teacher’s number one priority is student engagement, which is also considered the key driver of success.
Educators have been doing their best to keep their students engaged—they continuously innovate and look for new tools and search for latest trends (games/ fads) to pique their students’ interests.
Now that classes for fall 2022 are nearing, it is important for institutions to invest in empowering student engagement. Here are a few ways to keep students engaged:
Get them speaking and listening intentionally.
Discussion with your students lets them share insights from their perspective, and through this you will get to know their capacity to learn. It is important for an educator to learn their students’ learning capacities to teach them in an effective manner. Discussion with the class also helps in building the students’ confidence in speaking in public as well as empathy towards fellow students, which are important skills a person must have.
Make the most of technology.
Generation Z and Generation Alpha have been the most adaptive when it comes to technology. It is important for teachers to learn how to effectively utilize and maximize these available tools in engaging with students. You may incorporate math lessons with games such as Among Us or use Discord and other platforms to teach in an engaging way. Several user-friendly websites such as Canva can also be used by your students to express their own creativity.
Back-to-school Kits.
People love to receive welcome gifts, and this is also one effective way to increase your students’ enthusiasm and excitement in going to school this Fall 2022. A back-to-school kit may include the essentials such as notebooks, pens, pouches, lunch sets, and others. These are some items that can pique the students’ interest in engaging with the class.
An engaged student is an active and happy student. Let us strive to build a healthy and engaging environment for these generations and the next.
